Cut + Blow Dry At WhiP, Hackney’s Eco Boutique Salon + Music Lounge

WHIP HACKNEY AND MUSIC LOUNGE REVIEW.jpg

I was recently invited to review a signature Cut + Blow Dry at WhiP Hackney – an ‘eco-friendly boutique hairdresser, barber and music lounge’ – just a stone’s throw away from Hackney Central station, and tucked behind the famous Hackney Picturehouse.

The first thing that caught my attention as I walked into WhiP was the décor; I felt like I’d stepped into a Las Vegas hotel room in the ‘70s. Adorning the walls were retro mirrors and vintage relics, as well as fully stocked shelves of WhiP’s organic, vegan and cruelty-free hair products by Evo and Oway. Everywhere I turned there was something interesting to look at.

I was greeted by James, Creative Director and Stylist, who led me to their quirky waiting area whilst he finished up with another client.

After a brief consultation with James, we decided on a style and proceeded with a hair wash. Using Evo’s glorious smelling shampoo and conditioner, James gave me the full works with a relaxing scalp massage. Once I was settled back in the stylist’s chair, we talked through my desired cut and James got to work straight away. Within a few minutes my hair started to look edgy, bouncy and revitalised.

We decided on a sleek but voluminous blow dry, and to finish James used a light serum to tame any flyaway hairs.

I was thrilled with the results; my hair felt lighter yet looked thick and healthy, and the cut really helped my hair to take on a whole new style.

My experience at WhiP was a great one; James was a fantastic host and is clearly a very talented stylist. I will be recommending this salon to others, 10/10.
