Country Life At Water Meadow Cottage, Blenheim Palace Estate

Water Meadow Cottage Blenheim Palace Estate Review.jpg

We love a lavish hotel stay, but sometimes is it enough escapism? When you really want to forget the busy rush of life, our answer would most probably be no. Thankfully, we paid a visit to the beyond beautiful Water Meadow Cottage for a slice of country life, without another house or person in sight. Bliss…

The two hundred year old, picturesque Oxfordshire Cotswold stone cottage is located on the Blenheim Palace Estate, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. So you can imagine our excitement, prior to our perfect stay.

Upon arrival, the exterior grabbed us instantly. The ancient arched wooden door, the warm yellow stone and immediate fairytale feel, makes this Georgian cottage seriously special. And the best part? It’s completely tucked away from the outside world, with only the wandering pheasants and flashes of rabbit’s tails to be seen.

Through the pretty flower arch, the full scale of the wonderful landscape hits you. From the woodland straight ahead and the pristine lawn, to the calm river and green fields, it really couldn’t be more enchanting. You’d think the joy would end there, but there’s also an elegant summerhouse, just waiting for that chilled glass of wine to be sipped on the decking at dusk.

Inside, the décor is equally as gorgeous, with pieces carefully picked to please the most stylish traveller. There are lots of decadent touches, statement lighting, Tom Ford coffee table books, and a light and breezy kitchen with everything you could ever want or need.

The bedrooms are just like a glossy spread from an interiors magazine. Think monogrammed sheets, amazing Cole & Son wallpaper, silk trims and crisp Belgian linens. Expect the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had, without a street lamp or the slightest sound to interrupt your slumber. The deep purple bathroom is totally exquisite, with its roll top bath, under floor heating and walk-in rain shower. Plus, there are Elemental Herbology products to enjoy.

Speaking of beauty treats, during our stay we were very lucky to meet Sally Curson, Founder of Face Matters skincare, who came to give us a wonderful facial in the summerhouse. Her beautiful collection of anti-ageing wonder products blend radiance enhancing botanicals with collagen-boosting pure organic silicon, to smooth lines and completely rejuvenate the complexion. Our skin glowed for days and the divine product aromas calmed the mind instantly during the treatment.

Facials from Face Matters will be available from September this year at Water Meadow Cottage (£115 for 60 minutes) with 25% off all products purchased during your stay, and we predict you might just want to buy the entire collection!

After our lovely meeting with Sally, we headed out to explore the neighbouring villages, not that we wanted to leave the cottage. Who would? However, there are lots of chocolate box places to see with antique shops galore. For food, we highly recommend a visit to The Wild Rabbit in Kingham. Although, you can also pre-order wonderful, fresh food for your stay from the Water Meadow Cottage team. We did, and ate the best quiche ever! Back to the cottage and we were ready to relax on the terrace to watch the sunset. Too perfect for words.

For a city escape, we say Water Meadow Cottage is somewhere you just have to visit, and when it’s only 90 minutes from London, it’s oh-so simple to experience this stylish sanctuary.
