A Gourmet Getaway To Sani Resort | Halkidiki
Sani Resort is the kind of five-star destination you never want to leave. Mainly because it has everything you could ever need all in one beautiful Greek setting, but mostly because the entire experience has been finely tuned to make your much-awaited trip, totally effortless…
We visited this award-winning location in Halkidiki to experience the renowned Sani Gourmet food festival, which now in its tenth year, encompasses everything that is magical about fine dining. From the very best international chefs to the chicest restaurants (there’s 18 to choose from, FYI) this is an annual event not to be missed, and it’s no surprise that loyal, returning guests plan their trips around the festival dates.
Our personal highlight came from dinner at the Water Restaurant, carefully crafted by Alfred Prasad (the youngest Indian chef to gain a Michelin star) and his team, where we feasted on grilled scallops, seaweed bread, butter chicken and candied rose petal raspberry tuille.
Aside from the epic food, Sani Resort is set within 1,000 breathtaking acres of luscious ecological reserve, whilst seven kilometers of white sandy beach await you, ready for some major relaxation. In fact, the true beauty of Sani allows you to arrive and never lift a manicured finger, if you so wish. Or, if constant bathing begins to bore you after a day or so, there are so many activities on offer. Spend the day snorkeling, walking and playing tennis. Alternatively, enjoy a nonchalant bike ride to the glorious marina. Yes, there’s a marina with many decadent yachts moored. It’s that big.
Talking of scale, the family-owned resort has four hotels to choose from, including Porto Sani Village and luxury villas. There are three gorgeous spas, a bird sanctuary, 17 bars and cafes, boutiques, an open-air garden theatre, fitness centre and numerous heated pools. We told you there’s no need to leave. However, if a trip to see the local area appeals, the village of Athitos is a must-see for charming winding streets, traditional Greek homes draped in flowers and amazing views of the Aegean waters.
We were also treated to a ‘Sublime Radiance Express’ facial at The Spa Suite, located at Porto Sani Village, which included a deep cleanse and brightening treatment using divine Anne Semonin products. Afterwards, we lounged in the relaxation areas, surrounded by pink orchids, to sip tea with every type of accompanying honey imaginable. Bliss.
Each morning, we opted for breakfast at the dreamy Ammos Restaurant for a delicious assortment of Greek goodness, whilst looking out to the eternal horizon. The décor here, along with the rest of the resort, is contemporary and fresh with a consistent palette of white and silver, alongside plenty of Mediterranean touches. We stayed at the Sani Beach Hotel and fell head over heels for our huge balcony, daily fresh fruit and Moroccan-inspired lighting, before happily drifting off to the calming sounds of the ocean.
Sani Resort is undoubtedly a family friendly destination, but if the thought of noisy children fills you with dread, fear not, because the mammoth scale and adult-only areas, means this never becomes an issue.
So, if you’re on the lookout for a special autumn break, to completely forget the daily stresses of your nine-to-five, this completely stunning resort ticks every box.
