Hands up if the weather, end of year work deadlines, family politics and a crazy December social calendar is getting to you...
It's the most wonderful time of the year (as the song goes) but it can take its toll. Between running around the shops to pick the perfect presents, to cleaning the house ready for guests and negotiating all the festive nights out, it's easy to flag. Which is why I recently booked in for a pamper session at So Me Beauty & Wellness.
With two branches in Clapham, it's handy to stop in on the commute home from work, the perfect excuse for a little 'me' time. I chose the salon in Clapham North, a couple of minutes’ walk from the tube and super-convenient. Experts in all things hair and beauty, So Me is a one-stop-shop for relaxation – massages, facials and nail treatments – and rejuvenation – hair colour, styling, waxing, tanning and more.
Having arrived a few minutes early, the team found time to thread my eyebrows and while it was an impromptu treatment, I have some bold words: my eyebrows left looking the best they ever have. I even received unprompted comments from friends a few days later. Always a good sign!
On to the main reason for my visit, the stress relieving Swedish massage. It promises to leave visitors with 'the ultimate feeling of relaxation and wellbeing whilst working on knots and muscle tension' – great, having spent a long week hunched over the computer.
Spoiler alert: it didn't disappoint.
Hena, my masseuse, immediately put me at ease with her friendly but professional nature, and once inside the warm serenity of the treatment room, it was easy to forget the bustle of the busy streets beyond the front door.
Targeting the areas I felt particularly tense – thanks to a quick consultation – Hena, not only ironed out any knots and aches, she completely took my mind off the strains of office life. 10 minutes later (or so it felt, it was actually 50 minutes), Hena slowly brought me back to reality, ready face the world again.
I could have happily stayed all evening but, leaving utterly relaxed, I promised to add a regular pamper session to my calendar – in fact, I may have to make it my New Year’s resolution.
The Swedish massage at So Me Beauty & Wellness is £50 for 60 mins. Visit So.me for more details, 0207 720 3330.
