Neom Organics has been a beauty favourite at TSL for a very long time, so we caught up with the woman behind the gorgeous wellbeing brand to chat relaxation tips, weekends in the countryside and to discover how Neom started…
How did the Neom Organics story begin? Back when I was working as a magazine journalist, I was working crazy 60-hour weeks and often weekends on top. Although it was fun, it was intense and non-stop. I really started to struggle with everything. My moods were all over the place and the fast-paced life really took its toll. I was feeling constantly anxious and stressed. I was surrounded by women who were really stressed - they were either having problems with lack of energy or sleeping badly, or were just generally in need of a mood boost.
I had started training as an aromatherapist and nutritionist after work, so I started creating little essential oil blends and tinctures for them and it went from there! I started Neom with the purpose of helping people manage their wellbeing; I had, and still have a real belief that everyone deserves to take little moments in their life for their own wellbeing.
Also, I wanted to create products that were luxury as well as purposeful. Eleven years ago, what was available to buy in the shops was pretty uninspiring. I had to either choose something glam that was full of synthetic chemicals or head to a health food shop to buy something with great organic credentials but stuffed in a brown paper bag! Now, we create products that are 100% natural with true wellbeing benefits: to relieve stress, calm and relax, aid sleep, boost your energy or lift your mood and more than ever we are helping people manage their wellbeing better.
Is work-life balance important to you? Yes absolutely, it’s hugely important! I know it can be really difficult when you have a million and one things to do at work, but it’s crucial you make time for yourself and do the things you love, so that you’re firing all cylinders for your family and for your colleagues.
Instant relaxation tip? Try our 7/11 breathing technique, in through the nose for 7 seconds and out for 11, repeat until you feel your breathing regulate (it takes a bit of practice). You can enhance this by spritzing one of the Neom De-stress On the Go Mists above your head, let the scent rain down on you whilst you inhale the essential oils!
Who inspires you? My sister. She’s totally got her priorities right and is a great laugh.
Can't live without... My kindle!
What’s your morning ritual for a productive day ahead? I’m afraid I don’t have time for a morning ritual! I definitely feel more productive when I’ve been for a run, it really helps to clear my head and I try to do this at least three times a week before work, but usually my morning ritual consist of me and my husband running around trying to get the kids sorted for school!
Most stylish city? I lived in London for years before I came back to Yorkshire and I loved the style; from the fashion, to the stylish restaurants, buildings and the people. I miss it, but having two stores down there means I get the best of both worlds.
Beauty must-have? Rosehip Oil, can’t live without it.
Your proudest moment was? My proudest moments (in my personal life) are of course having both of my children! In my work life, there have been lots of proud moments that we all share as a team, the opening of our first store in Wimbledon, our second store in Leeds Victoria Gate and more recently our Kings Road store. But what still makes me proud is when I hear people talking about Neom, I still feel surprised that people know who Neom are, let alone buy our products.
Your perfect weekend includes… Spending time with my family and that usually entails taking our Westie dog, Harry on a walk in the countryside, delicious food, a couple of nice glasses of wine with my husband and a good book – I love reading.
Dream holiday destination? Barbados!
